Banged Up Abroad

Banged Up Abroad

Going overseas is almost always a good thing. You’ve got a new job opportunity, you’re going on vacation, you’re visiting old friends and family and generally planning to have a swell time. Or you’re going for work. Less fun but at least it keeps the cash coming.

Sometimes, however, things don’t quite go according to plan and inconvenience ensues. Banged Up Abroad takes this premise to a whole new level. Some of the shows are about when ‘normal’ people do something stupid like agree to smuggle drugs across borders or veer off the beaten path in foreign countries and end up being caught or captured. Other shows are about people who get tricked into smuggling or stand up for their principles against authorities who don’t take kindly to matters of principle.

Banged Up Abroad talks to the people caught up in their respective messes, and they talk about who they are and how they ended up in those situations. Banged Up Abroad does a very good job of pairing people’s monologues with high-quality dramatizations to illustrate the narrative effectively.

Overall a pretty entertaining take. Kind of like a true-crime series but with the focus on the perps. Well worth the watch if you’re interested in that sort of thing.
