Guilt-Ridden Lawyer Fights Impossible Case
Jagdishwar “Jolly” Mishra (Akshay Kumar) has been working as an assistant to one of the most important layers in his hometown Lucknow, Mr Rizvi, for many years. Mr Rizvi is well known for his skills in the courtroom so when Jolly met Hina Qasim who was seeking justice for her husband he saw a golden opportunity to get out of his current circumstances and fulfil his dream of owning his own law firm. He told her that he would be able to get Mr Rizvi to take her case for the fee of 200,000 rupees, which she gladly paid. Unfortunately for her, Jolly had no intention of fulfilling his promise and instead used the money to get his own chamber. When Hina learned of Jolly’s betrayal, she was so distraught that she committed suicide.
Jolly was flooded with guilt when the news broke and wanted to make things right by looking into the case of Hina’s late husband. He was shocked to find out that a day after their marriage, Hina’s husband was killed by an inspector under very peculiar circumstances. A lot of the details of the event made no sense so Jolly went about trying to prove foul play. Unfortunately for him, the lawyer that the inspector hired is widely considered the best lawyer in Lucknow. Not only that, but the inspector has a lot of very shady friends who would like to make sure he doesn’t go to prison by any means necessary.
This film is number 19 of the highest-grossing Hindi films in history and got critical acclaim for its direction, story and leading role performance. Jolly is a fun, colour-outside-the-lines sort of character and the supporting cast bounce off of him in a very entertaining way.
