New Year’s Galas from Berlin
Since its inception in 1882, the Berliner Philharmoniker has blown people away with their classical music performances. They’ve won two Classical BRIT Awards, eight Grammy Awards, six Gramophone Awards to name a few. Still one of the highest-ranked orchestras in the world, they will be dazzling your screens with their “Gala from Berlin” New-Year’s celebratory performances.
Stingray Classica is proud to showcase four excellent editions of their concerts. On the 30th and 31st of December, legendary Sir Simone Rattle (principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2018) will be conducting two of the performances. He’s a world-renowned conductor of a wide range of music who’s written three books on the art. Featured, is the Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin (multiple-award-winning prodigy) and Italian coloratura mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli (one of the most successful opera singers in recent years).
As a cherry on top, Stingray Classica also brings you the 2016 and 2017 editions of this world-class concert series. Pianist Daniil Trifonov (“without question the most astounding pianist of our age” ~ New York Times) will perform Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto. Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato (multiple-award winner including three Grammy Awards for Best Classical Vocal Solo) will sing songs written by Richard Strauss (top Romantic and early modern era composer).
Two-Episode Special in the evening on Stingray Classica (ch 332) starting Wednesday, 30 December
