28 Jun Impressive Easter faces toughest challenge
Robert Easter Jnr has done nothing but impress in the boxing ring. The International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Lightweight champion has been brilliant beating his opponents.
His best performance to date was when he beat the hard hitting Richard Commey, last September, to claim the world title.
After successfully defending his belt against Luis Cruz, in February, he will face his toughest challenge to date in Russia’s Denis Shafikov. The fight will be live on channel 241 (ST Sports Arena) at 03:00 on Saturday morning, July 1.
Shafikov earned his title shot by scraping through via a split decision over Commey.
Shafikov, 38-2-1 (20 wins by knockout), is a tough fighter who can give the champion problems with his exciting brawler style. The Russian’s only losses have been in world title fights against Rances Barthelemy and Miguel Vazquez. Could it be third time lucky for him?
In Easter he faces an unbeaten champion who has 19 wins (14 knockouts). Some experts regard him as the next big star.
“This is going to be Robert’s biggest challenge yet,” said Ravone Littlejohn, CEO of About Billions Promotions.
“Shafikov is a tough fighter and this is exactly the type of fight Robert needs as he steps up to the next level of championship boxing. This fight is going to prepare him for his future and we’re excited to be back in Toledo (Ohio) for it.”
Can Easter overcome the charging Russian? Or will Shafikov finally win a world title? Find out on channel 241 at 3am on Saturday.
