Major League Baseball 2021 to Broadcast Live on ESPN across Africa.

World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers return to the pitch to defend their title.

Johannesburg, 1 April 2021: Delivering on its commitment to bring the best sporting content to fans across the continent, ESPN is set to broadcast another season of Major League Baseball (MLB) across Africa, live on ESPN and ESPN2. The first expected pitch of the MLB’s 2021 season is on Thursday, 1 April 2021. The opening match will broadcast live at 7 PM on ESPN2 as The New York Yankees take on The Toronto Blue Jays.

Major League Baseball is an American professional baseball organization and the oldest of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. Thirty teams play in MLB: 15 teams in the National League and 15 in the American League.

For the fourth season in a row, all 30 teams will play on opening day, giving fans peak baseball action. Key highlights of the 2021 MLB schedule thus far include reigning champions Los Angeles Dodgers launching their defence campaign with a three-game series against the Washington Nationals from 9 – 11 April with a rematch of their five-game National League Division Series in 2019.

The 91st All-Star MLB Game should air on Tuesday, 13 July at Truist Park in Atlanta, the ballpark’s first Midsummer Classic and the first to be played in Atlanta since 2000 at Turner Field. The action on the pitch will culminate with 12 divisional games played on the league’s final day of the regular season on Sunday, 3 October.

ESPN Africa has also just launched the next Bob O’Connor video, as this comedian continues to help South Africans foster an understanding of American sports through his signature witty humour. The video, which gives hilarious insights into baseball, can be viewed here.

“ESPN will bring fans across Africa even closer to the excitement of baseball and the MLB this season with additional content and updates across our digital and social media channels. We’re looking forward to many exhilarating moments on the field.”
