16 May My Best Friend’s Wedding
Walala Wasala (you snooze you lose). Everyone has made the mistake of waiting too long to make a move only to let it fall by the wayside. That job you didn’t apply for, that beautiful person you didn’t talk to on the train, the love of your life that you never admitted your affection too.
Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) has been in love with her best friend Michael O’Neal (Dermot Mulroney) for years. In college, these two life-long best friends made a pact, that if neither of them was married by the time they were twenty-eight, they would marry each other. Julianne is twenty-seven years old and is looking forward to her twenty-eighth birthday in three weeks, until she got a call from Michael, inviting her to the wedding, which is to take place in four days. He’s met a twenty-year-old student quite recently and they’re tying the knot.
Devastated by the news that the love of her life has chosen someone else (and not content to simply let things be) she makes it her mission to sabotage the wedding so that she can be with Michael instead. Upon arriving at the venue with malevolent intent Michael’s fiancé, Kimmy Wallace (Cameron Diaz), bestows upon her the title of maid of honour. Julianne, now in a bit of a pickle, has to balance the most trusted of duties with railroading the whole thing without looking like the bad guy.
This is a romantic comedy that changed the classic formula to huge success. It’s a very funny film full of clever dialogue and ridiculous situations that will have you in shock and stitches.
