StarSat takes pride in not implementing a standard yearly price increase. Instead, we seek to reduce costs and absorb cost-of-business increases as much as possible. In the last decade, StarSat only increased its prices twice:
DATE | REASONS FOR INCREASE |
2013 | (StarSat launched) |
2018 | COVID-19 cost-of-business increase & 1% VAT increase |
2023 | The Rand-Dollar exchange rate crash & more expensive content |
In early 2023, StarSat released a press release announcing a 0% increase for 2023. We expected the Rand-Dollar exchange rate and economic circumstances to remain relatively stable.
Because StarSat buys content in US dollars, but our customers pay in Rands, the higher the exchange rate is, the more expensive content becomes. Content prices have also steadily increased since 2013, which compounds the issue.
StarSat, due to the crash of the exchange rate and the cost of content, must increase its prices from the 15th of June to continue providing our customers with quality content. The price per month increases are as follows:
BOUQUET | NEW PRICE | OLD PRICE | RAND | PERCENT |
Special | R130 | R120 | +R10 | +8.3% |
Super | R250 | R230 | +R20 | +8.7% |
Max | R360 | R330 | +R30 | +9.1% |
If you are, or used to be, a StarSat Special subscriber, paying for one month (R130) will give you access to all the Super Package channels. That’s 26 more channels at no extra cost!
If you are, or used to be, a StarSat Super or Max subscriber, paying for one month will give you a week for free. That’s 7 days more at no extra cost!
