2022 NFL Super Bowl to air live on ESPN across Africa.

Cincinnati Bengals to go head-to-head with Los Angeles Rams on their home field at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on 14 February 2022.

#SuperBowlLVI is broadcasting live on ESPN, including the hotly-anticipated halftime performances from Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J Blige.

Johannesburg, 11 February 2022: In a first for both teams, the Cincinnati Bengals will face the Los Angeles Rams. Both teams have reached American National Football League’s pinnacle showcase, the Super Bowl. The 56th annual championship pair-up, which sees the league’s top franchises competing for the top prize in US football, will broadcast live from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Watch the event on both ESPN (channel 248) and ESPN2 (channel 249) on Monday 14 February from 1 AM (01:00 CAT), with repeats at 7 AM (07:00 CAT) and 1 PM (13:00 CAT) on ESPN2 and at 7 PM (19:00 CAT) on ESPN.

The Los Angeles Rams’ quarterback is Matthew Stafford (No. 9). He’ll be running onto the field in his first year for this team after spending the previous 12 seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions. Following a standout season in Los Angeles, Stafford currently ranks as the NFL’s 12th All-Time Career Passing Leader with 323 passing touchdowns and 49,995 passing yards. He ranks 11th on the NFL’s All-Time Career Passers with 4,302 completions. All records make a very compelling case for his future inclusion into the NFL Hall of Fame, and this Super Bowl could play a role in this fate.

Joe Burrow (No. 9) is the quarterback for Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals selected Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after he shot to lightning-fast success in one of the most remarkable college seasons of all time. That success culminated in a national championship for Louisiana State University. He immediately solidified the Bengals’ offence upon his arrival. Unfortunately, Burrow’s strong rookie season got cut short when an injury took him out of play. Now, back in the game, he is likely to garner significant support for Comeback Player of the Year. By making the Super Bowl in just his second NFL season, he became the first No. 1 overall pick quarterback to lead his team to a conference championship victory in either of his first two years in the league.

One of the most anticipated sporting events on the US calendar, the Super Bowl is a truly global cultural event. It’s as well-known for the cutting-edge commercial spots and half time show as it is for the actual game. This year, the halftime show will feature an ensemble lineup of mega-stars. These include Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J Blige, bringing a total of 43 Grammy wins to football’s most prestigious stage.

Last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Super Bowl victory led to the GOAT quarterback Tom Brady becoming the first player to win seven NFL championships. His retirement announcement last week rocked the sporting world. Brady will be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame in 2027 due to the five years required after retirement.

There is a lot at stake for both teams. Who will lift the Lombardi trophy? There is only one way to find out.
