StarSat improves its offer

StarSat is refreshing its content offer: adding four new channels to its Super Package.

MIDRAND, 7 March 2023. 2023 has been a tough year. With the state of emergency, rising inflation and flooding, the average consumer struggles to make ends meet. Service providers should try assisting their customers in this time of need.

StarSat, for its part, will alleviate customers’ burdens in three ways, namely a price freeze for 2023, the introduction of four new channels to the Super Package, and a reward incentive for loyal Special Package subscribers who wish to upgrade to the Super Package.

StarSat, unlike some of its competitors, will keep prices for all TV bouquet offerings unchanged in 2023. “Just like all other service providers, our costs go up yearly,” says John Yan, StarSat CEO. “We at StarSat, however, have decided to absorb that cost to allow South Africans to continue to afford our rich and diverse content offer’.

StarSat will be introducing four new channels to its Super Package;

  1. CBS Reality (ch 170) offers captivating television guaranteed to shock and entertain. It features one of the most beloved TV personalities, the queen of the courtroom herself: Judge Judy. Other great shows include the ever-popular Cheaters, where sneaks and traitors get caught and confronted spectacularly. CBS Reality will launch on 22 March.
  2. CBS Justice (ch 222) is for true-crime lovers. Nothing is scarier than a true story, and this channel has some of the best: from glamourous offences by the rich and famous to passion killings by the guy next door. The average viewing time of CBS Justice is 30% greater than similar channels. CBS Justice will launch on 22 March.
  3. Kartoon Channel (ch 304) entertains kids aged two to ten. Wonderfully entertaining children’s shows are played daily, with family-friendly movies over the weekends. From Stan Lee’s Superhero Kindergarten to Peppa Pig, your tiny tots will find something to love. Kartoon Channel will launch on 10 April.
  4. FilmBox Action (ch 140) is a channel dedicated to the action genre in various forms. Expect to see iconic action heroes in classic Hollywood films, spectacular series from the US, Europe, and Asia, and modern heart-pounding blockbusters. FilmBox Action will launch on 10 April.

“We’re very pleased that we managed to secure four new channels for our Super Package subscribers,” says John Yan, StarSat CEO. “We trust that these channels will be a boon to our customer’s television enjoyment.”

To help bolster the value of StarSat’s mid-tier offering, StarSat will be graduating four channels to the Super Package: Manchester United TV (ch 252), Real Madrid TV (ch 254), MSNBC (ch 263), and Fashion TV Africa (ch 282).

StarSat has introduced a promotion called Woza Super to help encourage loyal viewers to upgrade their entertainment experience by moving to the Super Package. Existing Special Package subscribers who upgrade to the monthly Super Package will receive an extra week free. Alternatively, if an upgrading customer commits for a year, they will receive an entire month of access for free. Woza Super is a limited-time offer and can end on short notice.

Another freebie is what StarSat calls their Sneak Peek Week, where Special Package subscribers will gain access to at least one Super Package channel for seven days at no extra cost. Their first Sneak Peek Week will kick off on 17 March 2023, coinciding with the launch of a new English-dubbed telenovela called ‘Marry Me, Marry You’.

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news. StarSat was sad to announce the termination of Glow TV (ch 570) transmission at the end of February due to an expiring contract. We are also sad to see Russia Today go offline due to EU sanctions on the satellite transmission company responsible for RT transmission to Africa. RT is still available to stream on the StarTimes ON app.

On the bright side, StarSat hopes to announce the acquisition of several new channels in the second half of 2023. Fans and followers are encouraged to follow StarSat’s social media platforms to avoid missing out on exciting announcements.
