02 Jun Sweden continues with post-Zlatan era
When Swedish great Zlatan Ibrahimovic retired from international football many experts thought Sweden’s national team would suffer.
Looking at their performances in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, however, the Blagult is doing well in the post-Zlatan era. They are currently second in group A of the European Qualifications and have stood firm against the likes of Netherlands to keep their dreams of qualifying for Russia alive.
Their only loss has been against group leaders France.
Sweden faces Les Bleus again in one of the matches of matchday six of the qualifiers. The match will be live and exclusive on StarSat channel 245 (World Football) on Friday, June 9, at 20:45.
France and its array of stars stuttered in the first match of the qualifiers when they were held to a goalless draw by Belarus. Since then they have shown their class as they have won four matches in a row. These include the 2-1 victory over Sweden and a win over Netherlands in Amsterdam.
The French have the kind of line up that would scare many teams. They have already proven during the qualifiers that they have a number of players who can score goals for them. Dimitri Payet, Kevin Gameiro, Olivier Giroud, Antoinne Griezmann and Paul Pogba have all scored more than once for France in this campaign.
Following the loss at the Stade de France in November, Sweden will be looking to strengthen their position by attempting to beat the former World Champions.
Can they stop Griezmann, Pogba and co? Catch the FIFA World Cup European qualifiers live and exclusive on StarSat.
